One of the world’s toughest college entrance exams, the National Higher Education Entrance Examination or gaokao gets underway across China on June 7. More than 10 million candidates, mostly 18-year-old high school graduates, will sit the exams over two or three days in 2019. Their score determines whether they can gain entrance to a Chinese university.
