U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says he expects to meet with his Chinese counterpart ahead of the G20 summit in Japan.
At a congressional hearing on Wednesday local time, Lighthizer said he will speak with Chinese vice premier Liu He by phone and expects to meet with him along with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in Osaka before President Trump sits down with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
Lighthizer said it's in the interest of both countries to have some kind of a successful trade agreement.
Trade talks between Washington and Beijing broke down in May after U.S. officials accused China of backing away from commitments.
