MANILA - Sen. Nancy Binay on Wednesday said she wants the Bureau of Internal Revenue to stop and completely revise their "shame campaign" ads, which aim to shame doctors and medical practitioners into paying the correct taxes. Speaking to reporters, Binay said she was insulted by the ads since her own mother, former Makati mayor Elenita Binay, is a doctor. She said the ad seemed to show that doctors are the number one tax cheats in the country. "Ang nanay ko ay isang doktora so kasama dun sa tinitira ng BIR," she said. She said that instead of shaming professionals, the BIR should remind the public to always ask for receipts for all services. Binay has filed a resolution seeking an investigation into the BIR shame campaign. The next BIR ads will supposedly target lawyers and accountants. For his part, Sen. Ralph Recto said the BIR should send a more positive message in their ads. RADIO DZMM, March 5, 2014
