Onion prices have risen to around Rs 80 per kg from Rs 35 to 40 per kg in a few days. According to an NDTV report, people in Tamil Nadu are very upset due to the rising price of onions. People are crying tears of onion due to increase in three times the price. In Chennai, onion is being sold at Rs 105 to 150 per kg, the central government has re-fixed the stock limit onion storage limit. The government has taken this step to bring the onion prices under control. To control skyrocketing retail prices of onions, the central government has asked states and union territories to lift consignments of onions from the central reserve.

प्याज की कीमत कुछ ही दिनों में 35 से 40 रुपए प्रति किलोग्राम से बढ़कर 80 रुपए प्रति किलोग्राम के आसपास पहुंचने से देश में हाहाकार मच गया है।एनडीटीवी की एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक तमिलनाडु में तो प्याज के बढ़ते दाम से लोग काफी परेशान हैं. तीन गुना कीमत बढ़ने से लोग प्याज के आंसू रो रहे हैं. चेन्नई में तो प्याज 105 से 150 रुपये प्रति किलो बिक रहा है।ऐसे में केंद्र सरकार ने प्याज की भंडारण सीमा को स्टॉक लिमिट को दोबारा तय किया है। सरकार ने यह कदम प्याज के बढ़ते दामों को नियंत्रण मे लाने के लिए उठाया है। केंद्र सरकार ने प्याज की आसमान छूती खुदरा कीमतों को नियंत्रित करने के लिए राज्यों तथा केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों को केंद्रीय सुरक्षित भंडार से प्याज की खेप उठाने को कहा है
