Brad Stevens was interviewed pregame before the Celtics squared off vs. the Phoenix Suns. Boston’s head coach offered an update on Jaylen Brown’s shoulder bursitis, saying “I gathered it was triggered in that game [against the Bulls]… he had not been talking about it before… he’s likely out, he’s going to come to the gym and see how it feels.”
With the way Phoenix has been playing, Coach Stevens hasn’t been surprised with their success after the run they had in the bubble, and especially after adding veteran star Chris Paul to the mix. “I think you saw it starting in the bubble… they were getting great play all across the board…you can see the growth in Booker…all those things combined, and the icing on the cake is adding Chris Paul.”
On home court and the team currently jockeying for seeding, Stevens said “I haven't thought too much about it… it clearly isn’t the same as playing in packed arenas.”
Coach Stevens wasn’t able to give much of an update on Robert Williams and Evan Fournier, saying “Rob and Evan no real update… he [Rob] is still day-to-day… as for Evan, he should play sometime this weekend.” Williams has been out with knee swelling and Fournier has missed time after contracting COVID shortly after joining the Celtics at the trade deadline. Coach Stevens also touched upon playoff rotations as well as the vaccination status of the team.
