For the first time, Taiwanese representatives have attended events memorializing the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that marked a close to World War II. Taiwan had never been invited to participate—despite Taiwanese people dying in the bombings and Taiwan's inclusion in the Japanese Empire.
