CSJ Award Winners of 2009: Working Rite

Views 2

This is a clip from the CSJ's Annual Awards from this July. The charity gaining the Award was Working Rite.

Working Rite is a social enterprise that was set up by Sandy Campbell and Allan Nicol. They had noticed a gap in provision for young people who had failed educationally and were unable to secure employment. Sandy realised that being offered an on the job 6 month training placement with a small local contractor would provide both the experience needed to get on the working ladder and the life mentoring that selected self-employed tradesmen were able to provide.

Working Rite projects achieve a consistent 75% progression into apprenticeships and employment, compared to the national average of 50%. They also work with housing associations who confirm that they bring about a significant reduction in antisocial behaviour.
