Two billion people in Asia and Africa depend on seasonal monsoon rains for their food and livelihoods. But both increasing levels of greenhouse gases and air pollution have strong effects on monsoon behavior - bringing both floods and droughts. Physicist Jacob Schewe from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research is trying to model the influence of the two factors to determine how they interact to affect what he calls monsoon collapse.
