How to Make an Abbey - part of the exotic cocktails video series by GeoBeats.
Hi I'm Scott Mayer. I'm the mixologist here at Miami's oldest bar in Cabaret, Tobacco Road.
Ok so here's a cocktail from the 1920's. It's called the Abbey. Great cocktail, real fresh, real simple. We're going to start off with little bit of orange bitters. Bitters kind of act as a seasoning for cocktails, so a lot of people think its going to add a very bitter flavor. But really its more like adding salt, pepper and food, which sort of wakes up the flavors that you have in your cocktail.
So from there we're going to go ahead and about an ounce of Lillet Blanc, about an ounce and a half of gin, just a little dash of the sugar syrup, and the juice of an orange. Go ahead, shake that. Go ahead and strain that into a martini glass. This is a beautiful and fresh cocktail, a lot of great flavor. I'm going to go ahead and flame some orange peel. And there you have it, the Abbey cocktail.
