The rural sub-counties of Nyadri and Tara in the Maracha-Terego district of the West Nile region of Uganda received 10,200 nets in 4 related distributions. Malaria in this part of Uganda is highly endemic with year-round transmission and seasonal peaks. 37% of children were reported to have had fever in the 2 weeks preceding a recent survey.
The nets were distributed to children under 5 and to pregnant women not attending ante-natal clinics and will achieve 'blanket' or 'universal' coverage of both Nyadri and Tara. Malaria education and correct net usage will be an important part of the distribution process.
