Smoke rises from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine.

A fire broke out on Wednesday evening aboard the U.S. nuclear-powered submarine U.S.S. Miami while it was docked.

Four firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CAPTAIN BRYANT FULLER, PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD, SAYING:

"The fire was located in the forward part of the ship. The ship's reactor was not operating at the time and is in the other end of the ship and therefore not affected. No weapons are on board the ship. All personnel have been accounted for. Four injuries were reported."

The U.S.S. Miami is an attack submarine whose home port is Groton, Connecticut.

The vessel typically carries a crew of 13 officers and 120 enlisted personnel.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, but the Miami's nuclear reactor was not affected.
