Electronic Arts files interesting cloud gaming trademark, Call of Duty: Black Ops II acquires additional streaming provider, and PlayStation Plus confirmed for the next PlayStation, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!
Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. With services such as OnLive gaining traction and Sony recently acquiring Gaikai, it’s clear the future of gaming is eventually headed towards cloud-based technologies and with a recent trademark filed by Electronic Arts, such statement is clearly validated. Titled “CloudCompete”, the potential service is described as “Computer software to enable interactive and competitive game play by players on multiple and varying game devices”. Within the description of the filed trademark, CloudCompete intends to create “an online community for registered users to participate in discussions, get feedback from their peers, form virtual communities and engage in social networking”. With the next generation consoles likely launching within the next year, it will sure be interesting to see how everything pans out, so do not be surprised to see details unfold at this year’s E3.
Despite Black Ops 2 acquiring YouTube as a live streaming partner just a few months ago, nothing has stopped Activision from working with other companies to provide flexibility to the millions of gamers attracted. Announcing their partnership with the popular video game broadcasting and chat community, TwitchTV, Black Ops 2 players now have the ability to stream their multiplayer games to viewers worldwide on Xbox 360 and soon on PlayStation 3 and PC. With streams easily viewable through web browsers, mobile devices, and tablets via Call of Duty: Elite, those heavily engaged within the first-person shooter empire Activision has created, convenience is stronger than ever before.
Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, while it comes as no surprise with the massive success obtained, PlayStation Plus has been confirmed for the next PlayStation by PSN Community Manager, Morgan Haro with the statement “PS Plus is here to stay, so you can take advantage of the offer with confidence.” Owners of the PlayStation 3 and Vita obtain a healthy supply of free and discounted content with the PlayStation Plus service, so to hear such benefits will transfer to the PlayStation 4 is very satisfying.
