The town of La Plata, just east of Buenos Aires, took the hardest hit after torrential downpours swamped eastern Argentina Tuesday leaving more than two dozen dead and many more stranded.
The governor of Buenos Aires province, Daniel Scioli, says it's now becoming evident just how deadly a storm it was.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) GOVERNOR OF BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE, DANIEL SCIOLI, SAYING:
"It was a fatal trap for some people who were caught off guard by the volume of water in such a short period of time."
More than 40 centimetres, almost 16 inches, of rain fell in just two hours.
La Plata remained at a virtual standstill Wednesday -- a gloomy panorama of flooded streets and stranded cars.
