People protested on the streets of Caracas on March 30, after Venezuela’s Supreme Court stripped the opposition-controlled legislature of power.

Most of Venezuela’s neighbors have condemned the move, which has been seen as a further consolidation of power in the hands of Socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

In the country itself, opponents of Maduro took to the streets. In one instance on March 31, scores of people blocked a highway in Caracas, Reuters said.

National Assembly President Julio Borges denounced what he called a coup and called for new protests on April 1.
