U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says he sees trade talks with China entering their final weeks.
He made the comments in Tuesday's testimony before the Senate Finance Committee, but he failed to provide a firm deadline on when to end negotiations.
He also said he thinks the U.S. should keep the threat of tariffs on China open in order to enforce a trade deal.
Lighthizer added that President Trump would not sign a deal unless it was enforceable.
This could prove difficult as Beijing wants the threat of tariffs removed.
