At least 51 people were killed and over 270 wounded in Russia's deadliest attack on Ukraine this year, when two ballistic missiles struck a military institute in the central town of Poltava.

The missiles reportedly hit the Military Institute of Communications, causing extensive damage.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has ordered a full investigation into the strike. The use of ballistic missiles, which can reach their targets within minutes, left the victims with little time to take cover after the air raid siren sounded, according to the foreign ministry.

Russia has yet to comment on the attack.
