The Stories Behind the Tweets, hosted by William Parra, seeks to open a window to the world, to get to the bottom of stories larger than 140 characters. In today's program: a) Isla Holbox is a small Caribbean island off the coast of the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Its a tropical paradise with miles of virgin beaches and is home to the 12-meter long whale shark, the world's biggest fish, sea turtles and other wildlife. All this may drastically change as big unscrupulous corporations, with the support of the government, move in and turn the island into a tourist complex. But residents are now fighting back; b) The massacre of the civilian population of the village of El Salado, in the state of Bolivar, Colombia in February 2000 by 450 heavily armed members of a right-wing paramilitary organization. The population fled but later overcome its fear and returned and through community participation and with outside assistance is today forging a better future; 3) The population of the island of Sao Vicente in Cape Verde is 95% urban. But every summer, residents relocate to its beaches, attracted since 1984 by the Baía das Gatas Music Festival, held every year in August and featuring local and international music. teleSUR
